ART NOW
ART NOW is a program that is designed to reward youth for creating art. This beneficial program is an alternative to working at the local fast food restaurant. ART NOW offers instruction in art techniques, training in basic business skills and a safe alternative to hanging out in the streets. ART NOW’s first project will be a public art piece, a mural painted on the Basalt Family Resource building. The youth will facilitate and be involved in every aspect of the organization, designing, planning and painting of the mural. ART NOW will employ young artist apprentices, ask them to arrive on time and treat the art they create professionally and seriously. These projects will show off the youth’s creative talents and add an incentive to creating art by giving the artist an achievable, rewarding purpose, as well as the finished public art work. The apprentices will be paid for the hours they work. The wage that each youth receives is to acknowledge him or her for creative talent, skill as an artist, dedication, effort and hard work.

The philosophy of ART NOW is that young people have creative talent which when combined with diligence and hard work, will create remarkable results that should be rewarded and noticed.

The goals of ART NOW are:
* To provide a safe, meaningful place for youth to spend their “out of school” time.
* To offer public art work which will beautify our communities and showcase the talent and genius of our youth, as well as to teach valuable skills for life.
* To instill a sense of pride and ownership in the community, values which are not addressed by the generally low paying service jobs that these youth typically have.
* To promote economic development by providing young people, training in marketable, interesting skills and hands on experience.
