We are a Learning Centre of European Languages. We have created an Official School/Bookcrossing Zone here in Vryses, a small village (pop.800) where our language school is also located.
Vryses is a beautiful small village between the cities Chania and Rethymno.
It is full of maple trees, three rivers go through it and it is surrounded
by a pine forest described by ancient greek historians. It is a head village
(kefalochori) because it is surrounded by a dozen smaller even more
beautiful villages. Vryses was just a passage through to Southern Crete and
the famous Chora Sfakion. By the end of 1890s there were just two motels and
three houses there. Most people moved in from surrounding villages in the
1900-1920. Now it has about 800 permanent residents and about 500 more who
come over Easter and Summer. There are a lot of cafes, places to eat, a few
shops, two markets, an Internet cafe, and two language schools
Our school has about 200 students from ages 4+ who are learning English. We have been teaching English since 1993. Our computer lab of 10 pcs and three laptops is a useful tool to promote language teaching
As a school we have three goals:
1. To extend our students' knowledge of English outside the language classroom
2. Make our students better readers by motivating them to read, register and release books, and better writers by writing reviews.
3. Make them more computer literate by using the website reading and writing reviews
As an Official School/BookCrossing Zone our goals are to:
1. Extend our library to include greek books
2. To become an unofficial reading centre in the area where people will bring in books and take others
