I'm a Sino-mauritian and grew up surrounded by books of all sorts. My parents are both in the teaching profession and we have more books than clothes at home.

Younger, I used to read a lot of novels about romance and some fantasy fiction. I aboslutely loved my books in English literature class in high school: Things fall apart, To kill a mockingbird and Twelfth night. Later on I read a bit on feminism, women rights in Arab countries. I liked Princess by Jean Sasson, and The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini.

I also spent 5 years studying in China. I became mesmerized by Chinese culture books, Hakka cultural heritage and Mandarin language. My favourite books include Joyluck club by Amy Tan, the Harry Potter series, and 传家 (which I'd translate into Family Heirloom) by 任祥 (Ren Xiang).
I should definitely spend more time reading real books.
