A lifetime bookworm, I work for the University of Wisconsin Press, which is a department of the graduate school. I am surrounded by books every day. My office is stacked with books, almost literally from floor to ceiling. Nevertheless, I was happy to discover Bookcrossings. What a great idea, people giving away books. Ideas being shared.

There is a lot more we could do for ourselves as a society if we did more things like this. One of the great things about Madison is that we are starting cooperative networks like this on a local level. Like our co-op grocery stores, our community car program, the red bicycle program and other ventures.
