Liikun Finnish-Suomi -foorumilla / I'm a regular on the
Finnish-Suomi forum.
Boirinan hienoja BC-lappuja eri kielillä / Boirina's BC labels in a great variety of languages (thanks Boirina!!)
I'm a pretty omnivorous reader and always hungry for more books, although I re-read my old favorites a lot as well. My reading languages are generally Finnish, English and Italian. Swedish and German are not out of the question either. Whenever possible, I read books in either their original language or my first language (Finnish). Sometimes I amuse myself comparing translations to different languages to the original text or among themselves.
I have far too many literary favorites to list anywhere, but my top favorite writers include J.R.R. Tolkien, Patrick O'Brian, Stanislaw Lem, Umberto Eco, Rex Stout, Terry Pratchett, Gerald Durrell and Tove Jansson. Some top favorite novels not by the authors I just listed: J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, Richard Adams's Watership Down. I also adore Hugo Pratt's graphic novels about Corto Maltese. And I enthusiastically read the Harry Potters. Just to give you an idea. (It's pretty much needless to offer me any of those books or anything by those authors, unless it's on my wish list, because I tend to already have what I want... In that sense this is somewhat irrelevant to my BookCrossing hobby, I guess.)
I haven't read every book I have registered and passed on and do sometimes acquire and register books just because they are on someone's wish list. So the content of my BC bookshelf reflects my personal reading habits to a limited degree only.
I release books which I have unnecessary extra copies of, or which I just do not need to keep in my own bookshelf. (Occasionally I may also register a book in order to lend it to other BCers.) My relatively huge bookshelves are full and I need to make a bit of room there from time to time; otherwise, to be honest, I would never mind keeping unnecessary books. Well, there is the consideration of them weighing terribly and taking such a lot of boxes whenever I move... And obviously I have the moral obligation to introduce new readers to quality literature. :-)
I do not mind at all if people decide to keep a book I have released, as long as this isn't in the middle of a bookring/ray. I hope other bookcrossers do not mind me occasionally placing a BC book in my permanent collection (I won't if the releaser disapproves). Please note that many (but not all) of the books on my Wish List are ones I would like to keep.
Release/catch statistics: So far, I have made 515 wild releases (two more than the official figure due to three wild releases having been caught before I managed to make release notes and one having been given away to a fellow BCer after the wild release notes were made). I have had more than 83 of the wild releases caught and used to keep track of my catch percentage (27 % the last time I looked), but I lost count toward the end of 2009. Hope to catch up at some point again.
I have sent BC books to (in addition to Finland): Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA
I have released books in the wild in (outside Finland): Estonia, France, Hungary, Italy, Sweden, UK
