This OBCZ appears to be inactive. If this is in error, please contact BookCrossing Support to have this message removed and to have the zone marked as an OBCZ on the Go Hunting page, when books are released there. Thank you.

Welcome to the Natural History Museum OBCZ!

We have some of the finest brains in the world here - and not necessarily specimens - so it seemed only fair to have a literary outlet for them all. We're really hoping that people will get into the spirit of bookcrossing and share books galore.

The actual 'zone' is just outside the staff restaurant (in the Green zone - or Life Galleries in old money - as you go in towards the main public restaurant, just up the stairs on the left hand side, past the private sign).

If you're new to this, here's a quick summary of how you can catch, journal & release books:

Catching books
If you got to this page, the chances are you already entered the BCID number so you're well on your way - see that didn't hurt at all ;o)!
1) Once you have the book and entered the BCID number onto the home page, you will be asked to confirm where you caught it. check Greater London & South Kensington and you'll see NHM OCBZ in the list of spaces. Click on that.
2) You can make a journal entry about what your initial impressions were, any adventrues you had whilst in persuit of said book etc. You are also given the chance to rate the book (but if you prefer, you can do this once you've actually read it!!)
3) this book will now appear on your 'bookshelf', the little virtual world on bookcrossing that is all yours.

Journalling
At any point you can add a journal entry for any book on your bookshelf. it's a great chance to share your thoughts/review of the book
1) Go to your bookshelf and find your book (you can select 'all books' or by various categories)
2) Select the book you want to journal by clicking on the title
3) Once the book is opened (as it were) click on 'new journal entry'.
4) If you have already made a journal you can add to it, by going to the journal and clicking on 'edit journal entry'.

Releasing books
1) If this is a new book that hasn't been registered or you haven't caught, you'll need to make sure it's registered. This is dead easy. On the left hand menu bar on the website is 'member links'. 'Register book' is a sub link. Click on that and follow the instructions.
2) If the book is registered & is on your bookshelf (as they will be if you register or catch them), find the book and click on the title.
3) Click on 'make release notes' and follow the instructions
4) Then release it - either back ono the NHM-OBCZ or into the wild.

There ae a couple of us 'staffing' the zone so if you have any queries or comments just send a PM and we'll respond/help/look puzzled/shrug our shoulders the best we can.

Happy bookcrossing!
