Extended Profile
BOOKS I'VE ENJOYED READING RECENTLY
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO BY STIEG LARSSON – the best book I have read in a long long time, this captures all the key ingredients required for a detective novel, I was very disappointed to have turn the last page.
DENNIS LEHANE'S KENZIE-GENNARO SERIES - I realy hope he revisits these characters soon, though Gone Baby Gne is a great film it's not a patch on the book
THE GOOD LIFE BY JAY MCINERNEY - A sequel to his 1992 novel, Brightness Falls, it takes place immediately before, during, and after the events of September 11, 2001 – a great update on the characters from Brightness Falls but also a good read as a stand alone
novel.
EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE BY JONATHAN SAFRAN follows little Oskar Schell as he tries to find the lock that fits the key that he finds in his Father’s closet after he dies in the attacks on the World Trade Centre – Oskar melts your heart.
THE BARRYTOWN TRILOGY: THE COMMITMENTS, THE SNAPPER AND THE VAN BY RODDY Doyle – just pure writing genius, it’s rare for me to laugh out loud at a book but the characters in these stories just suck you.
THE DEPORTEES BY RODDY DOYLE – A collection of short stories he wrote for a newspaper aimed at immigrants in Dublin, it’s very eye opening and captures the day to day struggles of people adapting to the multicultural Ireland of today – includes an update of
Jimmy Rabbitte from the Commitments
KARIN SLAUGHTER’S TRIPTECH AND FRACTURED – can’t seem to put her Atlanta based thrillers down, also her Grant County series is compelling to follow, if you like Patricia Cornwell you’ll appreciate these.
YEAH I SAID IT BY WANDA SYKES (so funny, she writes just like she performs stand up in fact I just keep rereading this when I feel like I need a laugh!)
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS BY H.G BISSINGER about a true life High School American Football team – the novel is what the TV show is loosely based on.
TRADING BOOKS: All available books are available (though some may be boxed up so bear with me a few days!) Permanent books I'm more than happy to loan out as long as they return to my bookshelf. But please any book you take please don't leave in you permanent
collection, I hate when people do that - keep the book on its journey!!
