All About Me!

We're more than halfway through 2005! I had plenty set up for myself to do on BookCrossing, be it a release challenge, reading challenge, or just some fun tracking for myself. Unforunately I got wrapped up in other projects and hobbies and BookCrossing became a bit neglected.

I'm hoping with this last part of my year I can at least add some more books to my read in 2005 section and get some releases done. The last part of 2005 will find me moving, starting law school, and in general saying hello to a new life for myself! I plan to eat better, exercise, remember to take time for myself, and work hard at school and life. It's sappy but I felt a renewal of some of my New Year's Resolutions were in order.

The challenge section is still active as I plan to regroup and make new challenges for myself in 2006. I've also started the groups.yahoo.com/---/" target="_blank">FiberRAOK - BookCrossing Edition group on Yahoo! Groups. For those who are members of the FiberRAOK group who also love books and BookCrossing I wanted a home for us to talk book related matters and plan out group activities! The heart of the group is to join up and support BC! That will be a challenge in and of itself. Besides group related activities I do want to set a new reading challenge in 2006, maybe this time just one, and complete it. Even if it's just "read a book a month" because I'm in school. Whatever it may be I look forward to sharing it with my fellow booklovers, registering new books, making releases, and being more active on BookCrossing! So watch out site, here I come!

How To Catch A Wild Book

One of the goals I've yet to accomplish is to catch a book wild released. We have a pretty healthy Bookcrossing community in my area. At least once or twice a week I get release notices in my e-mail with several books someone let go of. Sometimes they aren't in areas close to me though, or sometimes I get the e-mail after getting home from work and figure the book is gone. One of the things I've really wanted to do though is catch a wild book! I'm going to try to be less lazy about going out and hunting them, when it's something I want, and hopefully be able to report back with my catches! I'd love to be a part of someone else's BC experience - just like I can't wait for someone else to be a part of mine by journalling on the ones I release!

So stay tuned! Hopefully more will be coming for this section!

Ratings and Extras

Various components of the bookshelf page are up for debate. I decided to outline what I feel each classification for the books and star rating means so it's clear what I'm thinking with my books!

To Be Read: Obviously I'm waiting to read this. I won't decide what to do with it until I'm done, sorry!

Available: These books I'm willing to trade or use for RABCKs. If no one requests them though I plan to wild release them, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Permanent Collection: I'm keeping these ones. I have to have them near me I love them so much! I'm sorry but I won't loan them or trade them even temporarily - they mean too much!

Reserved: These little books are waiting for a new owner. Either someone requested them or I know I want to send them to a specific person and haven't gotten to yet.

Traveling: There goes my little book! Off into the world! This status means I released them or sent them to someone specific.

My star ratings for the books on this page are modified from lists other people have made that I stumbled upon (namely Scism's Bookshelf - thanks for the inspiration!) and the ratings at Amazon.com. Since I've been using Amazon's system so much longer I had to sort of squish some of the stars together - although 10 seems like too much 5 wasn't enough! So some I sort of lump together. For example, the difference between a 1 and 2 star is not that big for me on this site, so you'll see they're not very different. But the difference between say, a 7 and 8 means a bunch to me. Okay, enough babble here is the breakdown:

1: I simply hated it and find it hard to imagine anyone enjoying the book. Would not recommend
2: I severly disliked it due to major problems. Would not recommend.
3: I severly disliked it and found several problems aesthically and technically. Would not recommend.
4: I didn't enjoy it or hate it, I kept waiting to feel something about it but didn't. Would not recommend.
5: It's just OK. I couldn't personally get into it but could see how others might. Could go either way on recommendation.
6: Technically better writing than lower ratings but not entirely captivating. Could go either way on recommendation.
7: More enjoyable than lower rated books but still found nothing griping in the story. Could go either way on recommendation.
8: Good read and good writing. Would recommend.
9: Truly a great book, enjoyed it fully. Only a tiny nit-pick stands between it and a 10. Would definitely recommend.
10: I love this book. Excellent writing and story. I was impacted deeply, felt challenged when reading, and/or just thoroughly enjoyed my entire adventure with this book. Would definitely recommend.

For my book ratings and more (I do music/movie reviews too because I love voicing my opinion) go visit my website at Reviews Abound - Reviewlog. Really, I just like to keep track for myself and keep up my writing skills, but go visit anyway!
