I'm not usually very good at filling in these "About You" boxes, so I'll restrict my description to my interest in books.

I have been an avid reader for most of my life. Books always supplied whatever break from reality I needed. I could escape into the stories, empathize with the characters and, on rare occassions, I could become the character.

I started collecting books in my youth, starting with the Carolyn Keene Nancy Drew books. When I reached high school (secondary school), I met an incredible teacher. On of those rare beings that could inspire a student. Mr. Terry Crooks gave me several novels by American greats like Hemingway and Steinbeck. I particularly enjoyed Steinbeck and eventually read all of his published works.

I currently have an extensive collection of evolution, freethought and philosophy books. I have made arrangements that these will have a good home at the Centre for Inquiry in Amherst, New York, where they will be available for future researchers on the subject. I also read a lot of books on Mythology, Comparative Religion and Archæology. However, before any of my public domain the books go anywhere, they are being converted into e-books for inclusion in the Project Gutenberg archive via Distributed Proofreaders.

Most of my book purchases these days are public domain books with the intent of adding them to Project Gutenberg. On occassion, I will accidentally purchase a newer book from a reseller and instead of putting them back up for sale/auction, I will release them to the wild....
