Purchased from Amazon.com as a possible replacement to this bookray:

http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/7487265

which was sent to me four months ago but has not arrived. I am still hopeful that the original will show up. It would be a shame if such a well-traveled book had been eaten by the post office gremlins. But since that does seem most likely at this point, at least the story can continue its journey, even if the physical book cannot.

Finished last night. I actually liked it and thought it was worth reading, but I completely understand those who thought otherwise. It was so over the top that I didn't even consider it to be offensive, somehow.

Arrived today. Many thanks flewry for resurrecting this one. Hopefully this will give me the push I need to finish reading Catch-22!

Not much to add really from previous journal entries. No more offensive I would have said than 'Crash'. Another 1001 book down and yet another that will be forgotten very quickly.

I have an address for dutch-book so will get this in the post on Tuesday after the Bank Holiday.

Thanks perryfran and flewry for sharing.

Arrived today and well... maybe I should check what a book is about, before saying I want to be part of a ring. I must have been led on by the fact that it's a 1001-book. Luckily enough this book has not been sent for nothing, because I'm always interested in those kind of books. Seeing the fact that I've read 120 days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade when I was about 17/18. I was fascinated... (let's put it at that.) From what I've read so far, this book is a lot less worse, and I probably will stomach it a lot better. (For those persons who haven't read 120 days of Sodom by de Sade.. it's about getting sexual satisfaction out of cutting of body parts, and after that the most horrible abuse leading to death.)

My sincere apologies to flewry and kimiaz for keeping this book so long with me. I just didn't feel like reading this book. I now finally did and was glad it was a short read. It wouldn't have kept my attention much longer. I have respect for those people who can look at such books with a professional eye.

Journal Entry 11 by kizmiaz at Belém , Lisboa (cidade) Portugal on Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Well, what can I say?
Is this really one of the 1001 books you should read before kickin' the bucket? Really??? Maybe the list should be cut to an even 1000.
I didn't enjoy it. It's not that I'm a puritan or anything like that but the whole thing was very dull.
I'll be sending it along soon.
Feb. 2 - lucy-lemon is not responding to PM's, I'll try the next in line.

Journal Entry 12 by mafarrimond at Hawarden, Wales United Kingdom on Saturday, February 18, 2012
The book has arrived safely. I will read and send on.

I do wonder sometimes just who selects books for th 1001 list. I think someone on the panel likes books that shock!

I did't even find this particularly well written! Still I can cross another off the list.
