The Dress Lodger (Ballantine Reader's Circle)

Gripping, haunting, sad and morbid, yet breathtaking, fascinating, thrilling: I couldn't put this book down! Very well written, very realistically so (no romantic visitation of the past, here you get all the gore, grime, dirt, crime of a Cholera-infested city in the previous century - you can virtually smell the rotting stench of corpses in those pages.) A relief to the reader that the outlook seems to be positive, there is the possibility of a happy end after all, but your heart will get bruised before you reach the last page.

Received in this morning's post. Thanks so much kalise, I'm really excited to read this. And to me, battered books are better, they show that they've been loved.
