"It is a cold January morning and Shetland lies beneath a deep layer of snow. Trudging home, Fran Hunter's eye is drawn to a splash of colour on the frozen ground, ravens circling above. It is the strangled body of her teenage neighbour Cathrine Ross. As Fran opens her mouth to scream, the ravens continue their deadly dance.

The locals on the quiet island stubbornly focus their gaze on one man - loner and simpleton Magnus Tait. But when detective Jimmy Perez and his colleagues from the mainland insist on opening out the investigation, a veilo of suspicion and fear is thrown over the entire community.

For the first time in years, Catherin's neighbours nervously lock their doors, whilst a killer lives on in their midst...."

I read this novel a while back and enjoyed it tremendously. So when I found this copy at a jumble sale, I decided to buy it and set it traveling. Hope you will enjoy it, too!

This actually went home with me from meetup. Sounds really interesting, I'm curious about a thriller set in the Shetlands. :-)

I read this book last month, it went with me on vacation and I read it there, mostly in Sweden. :-) It was pretty good, I enjoyed it ... I would definitely read more by this author, which is my lithmus test for any new author. :-) It's well written and has good characters; also a good plot, with kind of a twist at the end, I certainly never guessed how it would all turn out. Then ago I am notoriously bad at that kind of thing. ;-) Overall it was well worth reading, although I was a little disappointed in terms of the setting. I didn't really get that much of a feeling for the island ... IMO this story could have been set in any rural location anywhere in northern Europe, I don't feel I understand any more of Shetland now than I did before. So that was the one thing about the book I wasn't really happy with. But it's totally worth reading despite that and I will be looking out for more books in this series and generally by this author.

This book will be going with me to the BC meetup tomorrow and hopefully will find a new reader there. If not, it will be left in the zone.

I brought this book home from our BookCrossing meetup. Look forward to reading it, especially since it is from Shetland, which I know very little about in advance.
