Picked this up from the free book bin at the San Jose Public Library. Usually I love Steinbeck. This was sort of sub-par. The main characters are a bunch of alcoholic, half-witted, lazy paisanos who rationalize ways to justify themselves in all sorts of immoral/illegal/inappropriate activities.
