I'm a Kate Morton fan. Even so, though I was intrigued by the back cover blurb (lost letter spurs a daughter to solve a mystery in her mother's life), the actual tale was much different and darker than I expected. Still, I soldiered on, but even with all the historic detail, the magic of Morton's other books never found me in this one. (Rounded up to a 6).
