Here's the summary from the back cover:
Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its simplicity and wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an Alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a meditation on the treasures found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

Mailed today to nyisutter, because I saw it on her wishlist.
This arrived today. Thanks!
This was a good book. It was a quick and easy read. Because of the title and subject I hadn't thought it would be. It does give one a lot to ponder though. I am interested to read the author's other books. There some different religious view points presented here, and I liked how the author handled it. This was not something I expected either. There were lots of surprises. My favorite line was when the boy's heart told him "...that all people who are happy have God within them."
The book seems to be based on a passage in Matthew 6. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. However, in the book the heart led him to his treasure.
Thanks for the oppurtunity to read this book! I will be placing it in the Already Been BookCrossed Bookbox.

I read Veronika Decides to Die and loved that book, I am very glad to have found a copy of this in the bookbox.
This book was fabulous! Although it was short and simply written, its message is profound and definitely gives the reader food for thought. At first I was reluctant to read it, since I have not been "in the mood" recently for this kind of book... I now think that this book goes beyond reading moods and reading preferences: it is a book for everyone.
