I can't resist looking at books wherever I find them on offer. This is one of 3 I bought for £5 at a discount outlet within the garden centre near Otley when buying plants and enjoying morning coffee out with a friend yesterday.
I chose it because I enjoyed Mary Reilly by this author and because the back cover blurb suggests I might enjoy this as well!
Amazon Editorial Review: "Claude is a middle-aged man unwillingly attached to Mona, a woman obsessed with marriage and respectability. Then one night he meets the exotic Alexandra - regal, tall and spare, skittish and powerfully independent. When her rich friend Diana falls pregnant, Alexandra and Claude agree to accompany her to Diana's house hidden deep in the bayou, where they will assist her with the birth. They are joined by Collie, the housekeeper and Banjo, a drunken old handyman. At the house, Claude hears a disturbing and haunting story of a man similar to himself who was also involved with Alexandra and Diana and was found murdered in a hotel room. This is a gothic and mysterious tale set deep in the heart of the bayou."

A short book, only 180 pages, more a novella than a novel. A strange story, rather weird, with a haunting, unreal quality.
As a complete aside, Christopher is a very special name to me - good choice :-)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
To tree-hugger who expressed an interest when she spotted it in my To Be Read piles :-)
Thanks for this. I found 'Property' by this author clever & thought-provoking, so I look forward to reading this one.
I really liked this until I got to the end and found more questions than answers! I wish I'd known that this was the case in advance, then I wouldn't have been greedily devouring the pages looking forward to everything being neatly explained at the end! Other than this disappointment, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was very atmospheric. Intriguing characters and evocative locations. Recommended.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I'll be taking this book to the annual UK Bookcrossing (un)Convention, which is in Leeds this year. Perhaps one of the other bookcrossers will take it home with them, or maybe it'll be "wild released" in central Leeds somewhere. Either way I hope it'll find a new reader.

Leeds was my very first bookcrossing Unconvention. I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next one. Everyone was so friendly, and wow were there lots of books. This is one I picked up from the book buffet. Thanks for sharing.
