Read this book several years ago. Well-written. The movie (starring Johnny Depp) is very different, but equally good.

This is almost an inverse to A Year in Provence. Harris leaves a number of things blurred: is Vianne the baby Sylvianne who disappeared? Does she actually stay in the village after all? Is she a witch or just a sensitive? What about Pantoufle? The descriptions of the chocolate are enough to put one into a diabetic coma, a not inconsiderable problem. The priest is a type that is surely disappearing from the small villages, although there will always be some. He is a prime example of what happens when you restrict your life too much and should be set to reading Aristotle and learning about the golden mean. It's a wonderful read with villains and heroes and even a dangerous fire and an ill intentioned burglar.
