This is an intriguing book. It's a truly horrible story about a pervert stealing little girls and calling himself "The Horridus" - the Latin name for snakes. It's also a story about a cop, Terry Naugthon, the head of the Crime Against Youth unit in Orange County, a somewhat shaken personality whose young son of five died a few years ago under circumstances that we will know only at the very end of the book.
The story moves at a fast pace and while I had some problems at the beginning to get into the story, I couldn't put down the book from a certain moment onwards. While it is a gripping and moving story, it nevertheless couldn't convince me entirely. I missed a more explicit psychological background of The Horridus, but also of Terry. I also didn't really like the style of writing, this is not to say that the book is badly written, I just don't like the style.

The book is now on its way to Releanna from Vienna, who choose this book in the Flora and Fauna VBB.

the story is really horrible - child abuse is just the most terrible thing and it was hard reading it. Nevertheless the story is very captivating, full of suspense.
The differences and similarities between "The Horridus" and Terry Naughton are disturbing but also make the story so much more interesting.
Sometimes one doesn't really know what really is going on with Naughton.
I liked the writing style and this was a really great thriller!
