The Devil's Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America's Great White Sharks

Purchased for $2.50 at a Borders Bookstore close-out sale in Rogers, Arkansas.
The Farallone Islands (just west of San Francisco) are the last perfectly wild place to research Great White Sharks as they take up residence there every autumn. Susan Casey was lucky enough to make three trips out to this National Wildlife Refuge. In the process, she learned all about the islands, the ocean, the critters that inhabit both, the people who dedicate their lives to all of it... The resulting book is a fun, fascinating, gripping read during which you will be constantly educated, amazed and inspired.
I think anyone who's even remotely interested in sharks would enjoy this book. Personally, I'm not obsessed with them, but I've seen a few nurse sharks while snorkelling and I understand the automatic, innate fear we have of them. To learn more about the big baddies was a real thrill.
Also, these islands are apparently an important bird sanctuary and I was happy that the author talked about that at length too. I am a birder and that sub-plot was a nice surprise for me.

Sending out as a RABCK because I saw it on glade1's wishlish. Enjoy!
Received in the mail yesterday as a wonderful RABCK. Thank you, Moody-Blue! I'm not sure when I'll get it read, but it is safe on Mt. TBR until then.
This was interesting and included a lot of information, from great white shark biology, to birding, to history of the Farallones, to boating... I was left, however, feeling a bit like Susan Casey caused some of the problems the biologists faced. They didn't do anything without choice, but her being on hand with the yacht, her inability to stay on the yacht, the loss of the yacht, etc., certainly caused some trouble. And I feel she is maybe not the most pleasant person. Otherwise, the book is good and I learned some things.
