With this discovery in a second-hand bookshop in Richmond during a day out in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday, I've now acquired a little over 2/3rds of Michael Jecks' wonderful mysteries featuring Sir Baldwin Furnshill and Bailiff Simon Puttock. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the ones I've read so far! This is one of the early ones, only the 8th in the series, but I've never been bothered about reading them in order!

Belstone is an isolated convent/priory/nunnery (all three terms are used) in the wilds of Dartmoor where the regime is lax, the buildings are falling apart, letting snow and rain in through the many holes in the roof, and the murder of a young novice occasions an investigation by Bishop Betrand, with the help of Sir Baldwin Furnshill and Bailiff Simon Puttock .... and the situation deteriorates from there ....
Great fun - and now reserved for another fan of Medieval murder and mayhem!

A cereal box of books has just arrived safely. This is one of four delicious historical mysteries that were in the box. I'm another fan of Michael Jecks' books. Thank you so much Nu-Knees and the box is much classier than the cat food ones I send to you :o)

A good old medieval murder mystery romp among a bunch of naughty monks and nuns. Just read Nu-Knees' JE for a good description of the beginning of the story. An easy read to pass the time sitting in front of a large fan while the temperature is a breathless, scorching 40c outside, in the shade!
Thank you Nu-Knees.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I've given it to my sister to take back to the UK on Tuesday. I think she'd enjoy the book on her travels home, or if not she'll release en route.

I've not read any of Michael Jecks before and I was dissapointed with this one. I wasn't sure who the main character was - there seemed to be several candidates. There were so many secondary characters I began to get muddled. There were inconsistancies with the timing of where people were, when. I did get to the end, but not with any great satisfaction.

I hope to release it sometime today on my way across London to visit my sister.

Found on 10/26 on the train returning from a two-day excursion to Dover and Canterbury with my husband -- a small get-away in the middle of a nearly 3-week visit with our daughter and her family in Surrey. We are back in the USA now and this book will be given to my sister-in-law, who loves British mysteries (well ANY mysteries, but especially British ones). Will report back when/where she releases the book as she is not a computer lover -- just a book lover. Cheers!
