Hihi, I saw this book was going to be released at the MeetUp and thought that I had to take a look at it. When I was there I had already forgotten about it when Inken came and sat right next to me so that her books were just in front of me. Now I have taken it home and am going to read it ;)

This book is quite hilarious (there were some of those ever popular moments of snickering, giggling and actual loud laughter on public transport :)), although I must admit that as I got used to Bahr's prose towards the end of the book, I didn't laugh quite as much as during the earlier chapters (or maybe India just isn't as funny as Thailand?).
At the same time, of course, what is essentially an angst-ridden coming-of-age story (only garnished with hormones and humor) is profoundly sad, and I'm so glad I'm reading this in what I presume to be my "middle age". I don't think I could have borne reading this 15 years ago; it would have been way too close for comfort.
Oh, and thanks for confirming how much backpacking sucks. I always suspected when I briefly mingled with the crowd at hostels, but now I feel sure about it. :p

ETA: I'm amused by the fact that the German translation of this book is published as "Moomlatz". I kept wondering what they would do with the title (where "dork" is quite a bit harder to translate, but I suspect "whore" would throw people off track and lead them to expect serious Mutzenbacher-style memoirs - and probably a lot more sex than actually happens).

ETA even more: OMG! It looks like Iris Bahr is "Shadaim girl" on Coupling! (Sadly, only on the crappy American remake, but still.)

Funny at times. Confirmed my thoughts on backpacking and I'm glad I didn't experience that. Her desperation to give away her virginity was sad.

I'd have to agree with a previous reviewer who saw the premiss of this book as "sad". Here's a life hack. If you find sex painful and disgusting then YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT!!!!

I don't think most people hate it but do it anyway but if you do then free yourself up not to. Apart from that the book contained quite a lot of racism and humour that didn't work.

I still appreciate being sent a large assortment of book Christmas 2018 though...
