*Dark Rivers of the Heart

Some above-average clever ideas from Mr. Koontz, including an extended chase that engages the reader. As always, the villians are outside of Deano's whitebread/mainstream milieu (this time they're politically-connected sexual deviants). The story is also laced with anti-government paranoia, as Koontz decries the potential civil liberty abuse by the jackboots of an overzealous ATF/DEA/FBI, et. al. Funny thing, the book came out in the Clinton era ('94) long before 9/11 and The Patriot Act; I'm willing to bet that despite all Mr. Koontz's concern for civil liberty he is probably more than willing to see The Patriot Act II pass in the name of the War On Terrorism. Just a hunch. Enjoy.
