I can't say I had high expectations for this book. Much as I've enjoyed some of Eoin Colfer's other work, he's no Douglas Adams, and it's never a good idea to try and resurrect a dead author anyway.

So at least I can say I wasn't disappointed in this book. And I suppose it's an amusing enough book in itself. But it fails utterly as a successor to the Hitchhikers series. Colfer ticks all the boxes and includes all the right references, but it just doesn't work. But then, neither (in my opinion) did Adams's last Hitchhikers book either (which felt very much like he was just going through the motions - I suspect that's why he never bothered to write the last episode himself), so I suppose in that sense he's followed on quite accurately.

Picked up at Dublin last year. (Sorry about the delay in journalling!). Gave it to my niece to read and now she's given me it back. She says "it's OK". Taking on the Leeds Bookcrossing Mass Release Walk this evening.
