CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Took to the monthly Meetup.
I read this book while on holiday in Singapore. It is entitled "An Art Lover's Mystery" and is not the sort of thing I usually read. It took a while to get into the story, but then it became an enjoyable holiday read.
Annie Kincaid is a sleuth in San Francisco who is painting a mural in a columbarium.
It was interesting that I visited a real columbarium in Singapore only a few days ago at the Foo Hai Chan Chinese Buddhist monastery. The Columbarium was in the basement and is a kind of massive underground cemetery. Loudspeakers played Buddhist chanting in the basement. It was very peaceful.
In the novel a famous Old Master painting might have been stolen and there is a murder and Annie is trying to piece it all together. The language is quite funny with many puns and playing on words. There is a lot of driving in pick up trucks, painting in columbariums, goths, drinking and eating bad food and scenes taking place in San Fran and Oakland. I did learn a few facts about art which was interesting.
All in all a really fun holiday read.
I left this book with my friend in Singapore.
