The cover art was the reason I picked it off the library shelf and the story lived up to the great artwork. Set during the Depression, the story has great characters, an interesting plot, with a bittersweet love story.

Taken to the Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
I picked this up from the meeting yesterday. Thank you, rureading :) the meeting was crazy though - I kinda like the smaller get- togethers.
I am adding this to Mt. Everest , I mean Mt. TBR (grin)

I am kind of embarrassed for keeping this book for so long when it only took me an afternoon to read today. It really is a very nice read - the story moves well and you care about the characters and want to see them through to the finish. This is a very touching story with the very admirable theme of selflessness prevailing throughout - in a way it is sort of like A Tale of Two Cities set during the depression - rich vs poor, discrimination, hate all balanced by good people and sacrifice of great magnitude.
Thanks for sharing this, rureading!
I will bring it to the next Bookcrossing meeting to find a new reader.

Picked up at monthly meet up....
This is my first Sandra Brown book and I really enjoyed it. I love stories with children. I claimed insomnia so I could finish it up in the middle of the night! I liked the twist at the end.
