Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: A Novel
4 journalers for this copy...
I read this about a year ago on a bookring and really enjoyed it. I picked this copy up at the Book Thing last weekend. Oskar is very precocious and memorable. Hope someone enjoys this book, and comes here to journal it. Enjoy!
From the cover -
Nine-year-old Oskar Schell has embarked on an urgent, secret mission that will take him through the five boroughs of New York. His goal is to find the lock that matches a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11. This seemingly impossible task will bring Oskar into contact with survivors of all sorts on an exhilarating, affecting, often hilarious, and ultimately healing journey.

Taking this along to the BCinDC convention at the Crystal City Sheraton hotel. This is on someone's wishlist, so I'll take it along to our opening reception on Friday night. Hope they enjoy it!

A RABCK from my wishlist! Thank you MaryZee! Delightful meeting you at the 2011 Bookcrossing Convention in Washington DC! Many, many thanks!
Interesting book; I have mixed thoughts about it. I loved Oskar, his story and his search. I was much less enamored with the stories of his grandparents. I'm sure there was some deep symbolic message behind them, but it eluded me. It took me awhile to finish because of the grandparents stories that just did not interest me. Overall I did like the book. I hear the movie has gotten poor reviews. I wonder how closely it follows the book. Will release at the next Boston Bookcrossers meeting.

I watched the movie before reading the book. On many points, the reading helped understand the movie.
The whole story of the grand parents was not really necessary, in my opinion. The book remains an enjoyable reading nonetheless.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
release in OBCZ
Picked it up in the Long Stone, Dublin. Will release elsewhere. An excellent read. Loved the combination of image and text - a growing trend with books these days. Didn't mind the grandparent chapters - especially the section on the bombing of Dresden which was incredibly moving and well written.
