Mary Roach has a way of making the most prosaic or horrifying subjects hilarious and I'm looking forward to reading this book.
FutureCat passed it over last night at the BookCrossing Unconvention welcome dinner here in Wellington, New Zealand. I'm suspecting that the books are disappearing from BookCrossing, because the unconvention schedule is all cafes and restaurants, with a release walk to burn off some of the calories.
And what a place to hold a BookCrossing gathering! Spectacular setting between the high hills and the wide harbour, the houses and gardens cling to the slopes and the green of trees and gardens is everywhere. Coffee is an art form and the cafes are the quirky, colourful, atmospheric kind, not a hint of post-modern aluminium and glass anywhere. Students and ancients chatter over lattes or linger over toasties.
Thanks to two dear women for getting this book to me, but move over, please! I'm going to go to bed with Mary Roach tonight!
