Many thanks, Uppity, for the book and labels. It looks like an interesting read and it's always great to find new authors to read.

Journal Entry 4 by chocdrop at on Wednesday, May 4, 2011
uppity, I cannot thank you enough for sending me this book.

It is not a book I would ever have chosen to read for myself as I don't usually like short stories, but these eight stories are beautifully written and very moving. I finished the book a few minutes ago and I almost feel like starting it again.

Thank you so much for introducing me to Margaret Laurence.

Read these delightful stories in one sitting. Set in Canada in the depression era, they are tales of life then as seen through the eyes of an exceptionally insightful child. The characters are well drawn though I do think there was a bit of stereotyping with Grandmother MacLeod as the dour, God-fearing Scot and Uncle Dan Connor as a feckless fun-loving Irish man, even though he wasn't actually born in Ireland.
