Mrs Dalloway

Felt like reading this, after reading "The Hours".
Was on sale at Indigo so I picked it up.

Very, very interesting. I loved her writing style, and I read this much more slowly than I would read a typical book. My only regret is that I did not read it in one sitting (like I do, often times, when I am on a flight).
I found it a little difficult to get used to her free-flowing thought process, and how she jumped from topic to topic, even character to characer without any sort of "wrap up" for the one ending. I am also the type of reader who always sets a goal of reading to the end of such and such a chapter before turning off the light and going to sleep, and it is almost impossible to do that with this book. There are breaks that might be some semblance of chapters, but there are breaks in the story line that suit the purpose just as well, you just can't see them in advance.
As for the story ... Clarissa is a society lady who has held and relished (social) power through her entire life. I felt very pained for poor Peter Walsh. I didn't particularly like the way it ended (suddenly), and I think some of the story regarding Septimus was lost on me.
I'll be discussing with Penhaligon to find out what I missed!!

Got this book at a mini Meet-Up in Toronto. If I am coming back to TO for Thanksgiving, and have read it, I will be able to take part in the discussion.
I tried but could not get into this book.........sorry. I am going to take it to the Ottawa Meet-Up on June 8th, 2004.
I did not make it to the Meet-Up in June so it is going this month......tonight, in fact, at Bridgehead on Third Avenue.
Picked this up at Bridgehead yesterday.
The journal entries for Mrs Dalloway have piqued my interest and it will be added to my to-be-read shelf.
