From the cover: He who knows what is right will do right. True insight comes from within. If you don't think, your not really human. Do you believe in fate? Why does Shopie keep getting postcards addressed to a girl called Hilde? Who is the mysterior mentor who appears from nowhere to talk to her about philosophy? Who is Hilde? Who is Sophie? Sophie's rollercoaster ride through 3000 years of Western philsosophy thows up some big questions - and leads her deep into the mystery of her own life and identity".

This is a really good book. The mystery of the postcards slowly unrevels while Sophie works her way through some heavy philosophy. Very well written.

It is difficult to catagorise this book. Sophie is a child, and the book is written in a language that makes even the toughest philosophy available for older children, but i know many adults will enjoy this story a lot as well. I did. Only one negative thing; the only female philosopher mentioned is Hildegard of Bingen, and this is a big sin from the authors side since several women has contributed massivly to the western philosophy. Simone de Bevour is not mentioned at all! Shame on you, Jostein Gaarder!

Paperback, as new, but the cover image is different than shown here.
