"Thisis the history of the Jin-shei sisterhood, a unique secret society of women bound together by a declaration of loyalty that transcends class and custom. Their vow to each other is more powerful than any other, even those made to the gods.

But when one of their number becomes Dragon empress, the sisterhood is dragged into a dangerous world of court intrigue and deadly plotting. And the members of this remarkable circle, be they nobles or beggars, warriors or healers, find themselves plunged into desperate conflict--with each other.

Will one woman's dream of immortality destroy the beautiful secret of the Jin-Shei sisterhood?"

This is an intriguing book, very hard to classify - a very lush, vivid fantasy, haunting in places and beautifully written.

Edit: Despite being filed in general fiction and the blurb claiming it takes place in medieval China, this is fantasy, set in a world called Syai. It's inspired by medieval China in the same way that much of traditional fantasy is inspired by medieval Europe.
