The narrator of this book has a unique voice; he seems "cool," and indifferent, but he is deeply compelled to understand the time and place of his origins with very little to guide him.
The book is a labyrinth, a kind of metaphor for the twentieth-century mind, and the reader can't help but become involved in his or her own quest for identity.
