I lOVE this book - a real tear jerker. The movie was great - but again, as usual, the book is far better....
From the back ....
"In South Afirca in the 1940s a young boy struggles to realise his individuality in a society divided by racial hatred and conflict."
It was Bryce Courtenay's first book - and for those who like this I really recommend 'April Fool's Day' too ... a true story of his son

I took this book with me on my work travels this week in the hope that I would find a fire station to be able to fulfill the SSM4 (I had especially chosen this book because of the courage and bravey shown in it)... unfortunately due to loads of work, I never made it last night while I was staying in Brisbane (I even had a note to the firefighters in the book!!). Anyway - left it in the bedside drawer on the left hand side of the bed - as usual beside the bible. So hopefully, one day someone will think to look there and be pleasantly surprised!!
