Every few years I try reading Robert Rankin again, and I'm always disappointed. He *should* be a lot funnier than he is - he's got some lovely ideas, and a style reminiscent of Douglas Adams crossed with early Terry Pratchett, but somehow the promising pieces just don't fall together in quite the right way, and his humour ends up coming across as forced.
Something I didn't notice when I first registered this book is that there's a dedication written inside. The signature isn't entirely legible, but it looks like it says Robert Rankin. A signed copy found in a cheap box of books - not bad going!

Given to another bookcrosser at tonight's meetup.
Who on Earth is Dorrin? That's the name written by the author, so presumably the first owner of this book. I hope the writing is as good as the cover picture.
Back with me again. I'll bring it back to the next meetup and see if I can find it another reader.

Another book from FutureCat picked up from today's meetup. Yay FutureCat - bringer of books.
Picked up since it looked quite funny - love the cover pic and I like amusing books.

A rather odd book, different from anything I've ever read before.
I was expecting it to be funnier than it was but I still got some laughs out of it. I did enjoy it though and might seek out some of Robert Rankin's other books sometime.

This looks like it will be right up my alley.
My husband thought this was very funny. I did get the "Douglas Adams crossed with Terry Pratchett" comparison, and also agree with FutureCat that Rankin has some great ideas, but it didn't fire for me.
Also putting this up for adoption at sf-books.com.

I just received this book via a bookswapping site: sf-books.com. I can't wait to read this as I've read Rankin's The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse and loved his sense of humor. I also have another of his waiting in the wings: Nostradamus Ate My Hamster.
If anything, I must say I love his titles!
I'll post after I've read the book.
