This is the 10th book in the DCI Alan Banks series. The summer has been long and hot and the drought has caused the Thornfield reservoir to dry up revealing the village of Hobb's End that disappeared when the reservoir was created. A human skeleton is discovered and Banks finds himself allocated to the case to find out who this was and how they ended up her. The Chief Constable is obviously expecting Banks to fail in this task and also to have problems being teamed with DS Annie Cabbot.
This is one of the best of the series with the old case bringing back some personal memories for Banks. He is also managing to get his life back under control following the events of the last year. I definitely prefer the books in the series where we find out about what is going on in the lives of those involved and how it impinges on their work life.
