I am waiting to hear from Kymberlie, as Kernow8 has asked me to skip her for now.
Sorry to report that I didn't enjoy this one...actually I didn't even finish it. I think one needs a lot of uninterrupted time to get into this book, winter would have been better for me. Anyway I have had the book too long already and want to wing it onward on it's journey.
The book has arrived safe and sound. I will read it as soon as I can. :)

Saturday, December 18, 2004 at about 1:00:00 PM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at
PokPok in n/a, n/a Controlled Releases.
RELEASE NOTES:
Mailing to PokPok on Saturday.
The Gunpowder Plot is one of the best history texts I've read. It does have moments where it dwells too long in setting up the events but fortunately those moments are not the majority of the book. The Gunpower Plot / Guy Fawkes day is not something taught in U.S. schools (or if it is, it's glossed over) so I came to this book note knowing much and came away having learned a great deal. There are also three sections of lovely illustrations of paintings and such that were worth looking at.
Rec'd this today. I have two other thickish tomes in front of it, but I should have it read by the end of January.
I just wanted to update the entry, to let you know I started reading this today. I should have it moved on in a couple weeks. Thanks.

RELEASE NOTES:
Will mail this week to tho in Portugal.
I just finished this book. I had a hard time with it. Parts I thought were very intersting, such as the set up of the times of Catholics vs. Protestants, and once the conspirators were caught. Other sections, moved very slowly for me. It was never enough to stop reading, but enough where I had a difficult time with it.
Overall, I am glad I read the book, b/c I understand so much more clearly the issues of religion in England. I knew very little about it before. I have a few other Fraser books; they are much bigger books, and I hope they move a bit better than this one does.
Red644 has been offline for awhile, so I'm moving this on to tho.

OK, I really really tried, but was unable to finish this book :-( I guess I'm just not in the right mood to appreciate a non fiction history book right now, even though this one looks so promising ... Thanks for organising this, JuniperHill, I will be sending it on to the next person as soon as I get an address. Zyana has asked to be skipped, and Theresa-A is not receiving any BRs for now, so I've contacted starry-starry for her address.
It's arrived, thanks very much Tho. The only other book I've read by Antonia Fraser was The Six Wives of Henry VIII which I enjoyed very much, so hopefully this will be as good. I have one book in front of it, but will get to it as soon as I can.
I'm afraid to say that I just couldn't get into this one. I don't think I'm quite in the mood for in-depth history at the moment. I know my library has a copy of it so I will borrow that at a later date.
Kernow8 contacted me and asked to be next as she was skipped earlier on due to moving. So it is on its way to her this morning.
Thanks! This actually arrived yesterday, but my husband was hogging the computer so I've only been able to journal it today. When I joined this ring I was in America and getting nostalgic about things like bonfire night. Since I've been back, my 5 year old daughter has studied the gunpowder plot at school and has overtaken me in her knowledge (that's happening quite frequently these days) so I need to get learning again!
Finally finished - apologies for the delay (there was always an easier-to-read book with more people waiting for it to tempt me away - no excuse I know, and I apologise to mlbish who has been waiting patiently for this book). I really enjoyed the read - I've become quite a fan of well-written history since finding bookcrossing. This was my second Antonia Fraser: the first was Mary Queen of Scots so it was appropriate to read about her son, and the continuing anti-Catholicism in England in those days. I will never celebrate November 5th in quite the same way again - in fact, maybe I will never celebrate it again! I could never figure out whether it was glorifying the terrorists or celebrating the deliverance. I'm not sure whether I really know that now, but I definitely know a lot more about the plot and surrounding intrigues and conspiracies.
Thanks very much for a great read - on to mlbish next time I'm in the post office. Enjoy!
Caught. Thank you very much! It looks great. And Kernow8, I have to say that I think your return address labels are adorable.
Aaaaah! I didn't realize I still had this book! So sorry for holding it for so long.
The portion of the book that I did read, I found really fascinating. The only problem was that there were SO (!) many characters to keep up with. I'm bad at that anyway, so a book in which there are excessive names to track is just too hard for me to follow.
Another problem is that I had a huge distraction in my life. During the last few weeks of pregnancy and after the birth of a baby, it's really hard to read a memory-intensive book!
I will move it along promptly. Again, I apologize for holding it up.
