I really like Nick Hornby - 'Fever Pitch', 'High Fidelity' and 'About a Boy' are all superb books. When this came out, I dashed out to a bookshop and bought it in hardback. It was much heralded and well reviewed... Hornby was departing from his normal 30-something bloke template and was --gasp-- writing from the perspective of a woman.

As a 20-something man myself, I can't really comment on how successfully he writes from the female perspective (seems okay, but what do I know?). Unfortunately the book has far more glaring faults in my opinion. The plot is dull, and the characters are unsympathetic and frankly the whole thing is a bit of a bore. A major, major disappointment.

Interesting to know what other people think...

I have been a horrible bookcrosser for awhile now. I have over 260 books TBR and this one called to me last week and was one of those that made me wonder "Why did I wait so long!"

I love it! As a late 30 something this book had a true female voice for a main character and I could totally relate. I know what does that say about my life right now??? However, it hit the spot and was just what I need. Thanks so much for sharing!!!

I'm marking it as reserved because I'm not sure I can bare to part with it quite yet, however, can't imagine not sharing it either.
