My TBR pile is just too high right now and would rather this get to fanclub because she is interested in reading this one as well. Perhaps one day I'll get back around to this one, but for now its on its way!

I picked up this book and started it last night. I read a few pages and heaved an exasperated sigh. "This is impossible!" I remarked aloud. I am nothing if not determined. I kept plugging. I made it to about page 100. I can't go any further. I have never read anything so dry, so pedantic, so overflowing with unrealistic conversations crammed with the biggest words the author could think of (the kind real people would never actually have, no matter how intellectual they might be) -- and then he throws in words like "fuck" to make us think he is just an average joe after all, I guess -- that I had to stop. This is possibly one of the worst books I have ever tried to read, and I am disappointed as I have been wanting to read it for a long time. I have lost a day of my life to this book, and I want Phillip Roth to give it back.
