The book arrived safely today. Thanks so much! It's next up after my current read. At the moment I'm rereading "Lace," by Shirley Conran. Shall journal again when I start this book.

I have almost finished my current read Patriot Games by Tom Clancy, and have literally rolled the dice to see what I am about to read next. And, ta-da, this book is up next. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to crack it open tomorrow night!

Oops, oh no!!! I just realised that this was a bookray and not a book relay. I'm terribly sorry that I have been hogging it. Blushing here :( Shall get it on the road pronto.

I have to say that this book hasn't grabbed me. I made it to p64 before making the decision to move this one along. Thanks for sharing the book with me Greedyreader.

This was a delightful surprise because I had forgotten I put my name on the list for this bookring.

Came to my mailbox from Mooresville, NC. Thanks!

I began this book Wednesday night; by page 7, I was laughing out loud. I read more last night and it has continued to be a delight! Thanks for sharing this book with others! More later.

An unusual format for a novel, I think. A series of vignettes about eccentric characters who live in this "small place" manage to tell a story without a real storyline. The author makes these unusual people seem real and, at the same time, manages to create a world where, even though not a lot of action seems to take place, lots of philosophy does get instilled into the story.

I do have to admit that I got bogged down in the NOT so short history of this small place. Sometimes even funny writing goes on for much too long!

I finished this book over a beautiful April weekend in Raleigh, NC. I am PMing to jdt, next on the bookray list, for his/her mailing address so I can send it on its way. Thanks again for sharing this book, set in NC. I look forward to reading others' responses to the book.

Looking forward to reading this book I remember someone recommended several years ago.
The back cover description is intriguing.

(Looks like it might be helpful to have a note/post-it on this book that says BookRay! so it doesn't get lost in our, TBR stacks!
I'll put a post-it on the book, try to keep it moving...)

Thanks, fourthofJuly (and greedyreader)!

Oh dear!
My face is bright red, esp. on reading my sorta-righteous-sounding journal entry months ago!
OK - just discovered this book in my TBR stack - not with my rings/rays books - with a little bookray post-it I added myself.
Reading ASAP, PMing witchie, will send on this week.
Apologies to all!

Journal Entry 11 by JDT from Pleasanton, California USA on Tuesday, August 10, 2004
Witchie asked to be skipped - bookring/ray overload.
PMing Kymberlie - last on bookray list.
(greedyreader - anyone else to add to the list?)
Thanks again for this bookray!

a wonderful book, set in a small town in the south.
You need to be in the mood to go with it - and to enjoy the skillful, dense writing, the quirky characters, and warm humor.
Mailing to kymberlie - last on the bookray list at this point.
