Second volume in the "Callahan's" series.

This is actually an Ace Science Fiction paperback edition from the late 1980s, instead of the edition with the cover shown attached to this BC journal.

Description from back cover:
"Callahan's Crosstime Saloon is back in business! After waiting long enough for the crowds to thin out, Mike Callahan, proprietor of the famous Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, is opening the doors again to new customers. And to help cope with the long lines he justifiably expects, he's asked Hugo Award-winning author Spider Robinson to pitch in. The Spider sweetens the pot with both fiction and the nonfiction that has earned him his reputation as one of science fiction's foremost critics. So, if you're looking for a good night out someplace where the beer is always cold, the times are always hot and disco was dead to begin with, then belly up to the bar in Callahan's. Human or otherwise, hale and hearty or down and out, regardless of race, creed or dimension of origin, you're all welcome. But remember -- Time Travelers Strictly Cash!"

I didn't want to simply release my five "Callahan's" titles into the wild, so I decided to launch my first BookRay -- with all five books travelling together. The BookRay was announced (originally only with three books) on 10-18-2003 with the intent to mail them to the first person as soon as ten had signed up, but that number was reduced to five in November, and the books went out to the first name on the list on 12-3-2003. These books are available as a US-only BookRay.

Here's the list so far, in the order we'll follow:
fruitbat from Oregon
ladyofunicorns from New Mexico <--Stalled out since Feb 2004 with this participant!
drumorgan from California
PygmyMoose from Nebraska
CGCurrie from Virginia
arugh48187 from Minnesota
snowmyst from West Virginia

PM me if you'd like to be added to the Ray...

Woohoo! I've been wanting to read these for so long and could never find copies!

Journal Entry 5 by fruitbat from Cottage Grove, Oregon USA on Monday, January 19, 2004
Enjoyed this one even more than the first. I have to admit that some of the stories I liked best were non-Callahan stories -- not because they were non-Callahan; that's just the way it happened. I love love love that Robinson included notes about each offering -- I adore knowing the genesis and evolution of stories. Will be sent along this week to ladyofunicorns (I'll make a release note when it actually gets into the mail)

Released on Friday, January 23, 2004 at to another BookCrosser in bookray, postal release USA.

on its way with the others to LadyOfUnicorns via media mail

I enjoyed most of the book. A couple of the stories were a bit odd but otherwise pretty good!

Thanks for sharing!

Journal Entry 9 by SiDiC from Lincoln, Nebraska USA on Tuesday, March 15, 2005
The five books in this Callahan's Crosstime Saloon series BookRay have been permanently stalled at the hands of our second participant, LadyofUnicorns, of Santa Fe, NM.

If you are LadyofUnicorns, please be fair to the other BookRay members who have now been waiting for over a year for you to pass the books on to them.

If you are not LadyofUnicorns, but would like to see these books freed to continue on their journey, I encourage you to PM that user to let your wishes be known, politely but firmly.

Unfortunately, despite being sent e-mails in Summer 2004, Fall 2004 and now in February 2005, LadyofUnicorns has refused to respond to any and all inquiries regarding these books. I consider her to be a risk to all future BookRay and BookRing memberships, and warn anyone against including LadyofUnicorns in future endeavors unless s/he can get their act together. There are several other books that are parts of other BookCrossers' BookRays or BookRings which are also stalled out on this BookCrosser's shelf!

In the meantime, I'm going to do what I can to come up with additional copies of all five books in the Callahan's BookRay, to see if we can't continue to share the reading pleasure. I'll notify the next person in line if/when I'm successful.
