Journal Entry 1 by kert01 from Bishops Waltham, Hampshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 26, 2003
I've just been sent this as a surprise gift from someone I've never met, as something for 'be nice to someone on a Friday' from Join Me. I can't thank him, as I'm not supposed to know he sent it :-) However, I know that he distributes books via Bookcrossing.com, so I will read it, and then pass it on to the world...
I loved the TV series, and the book is supposed to be as good.
I loved the TV series, and the book is supposed to be as good.
I enjoyed this book, especially imagining the scene where Dave is doing his slot at the Edinburgh Festival with Danny's girlfriend in the audience, and he realises what her has just said he shouldn't have done. You can imaging the internal cringe :-)
The book's now on it's way as a RABCK as it's on someone's wishlist.

Ooooh ty ty ty for this book. I came so close to buying it on my way to my hols 3 week ago, I am so glad I didn't now!
It goes onto my TBR pile, and I will read it as soon as I have a gap without books that are on rings/rays or books promised to someone else.
Did I say thank you ? I REALLY appreciate this!

Now I feel bad - although this book was one of the newest additions to my TBR mountain - it just called out to be read, and it jumped to the top of the pile! I really enjoyed it, and it made me appreciate far more why Hanne got so fed up with Danny in the Join Me book. It explains why Danny went to such lengths to keep his quest a secret right through the Join me book, as she would have walked sooner had she known what was going on!
I am now offering the book to other UK Book crossers who have it on their wish list.
Once more thing - the pictures have come loose in this copy. Rather than stick them in I am going to leave them loose as I liked to refer to the pictures as I went along so see each Dave Gorman - it helped me feel more involved with the story!

I have decided that now I know the location of Leamington Spa Dave - I can only hope it's the same one from the book - I want to send him the book when we have finished the ring just so he can see what that daft bloke called Dave wanted! So if I can have the book back when we are done I will send it on to Leamington Spa.
Here's how to play:
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3 (erm, 4!)
1. When you receive the book, make a journal entry so we can all see that it has landed safely.
2. PM the next person in line for their address. If you haven't had a reply from them after a week, move on to the next name down (and drop me a line to let me know what's happened.) We can always loop back for anyone who misses out due to holidays, etc, but I'd like to keep the book travelling reasonably quickly if at all possible.
3. Read (and hopefully enjoy) the book, and make a journal entry to tell us what you thought.
4. Make release notes/a journal entry to say when the book is leaving your hands and who'll be catching it next, and pop it into the post!

Thank you Weebly - received this in the post today (although some confusion as it was addressed to my daughter who got very excited at the thought she might have another book!)
Anyway, having loved Join Me, I'm looking forward to reading this soon. I have one here to finish which, by coincidence, is also due to go to Anfield, so will hopefully get this read so I can send them both off together.

Loved it! The book arrrived at just the right time as I was in need of some light relief and this certainly provided it. I can't pretend to understand what would make someone embark on such a scheme, but I'm glad they did as it makes for a great, fun book!
As Weebly said, I can now understand why Danny was so keen for Hanne not to find out about Join Me!
Although I watched most of the series on TV, I never saw the final episode, so it was great to find out how they found the final DG's.
Thanks for starting the ray Weebly - I'm now sending this off to Anfield.

Received in the post today from Camis
Madness, utter madness. These two should be locked up for their own good ;-)
Plenty of laughs, and I am so envious of their care-free lifestyle. And while their pursuit of DGs is laddish in the extreme, they don't come across as obnoxious lads, but fun ones as long as you are not the girlfriend. Days after I finished it, DG popped up on "Have I got News for You" and I think he should stick to writing, he didn't inmpress at all.
As for the book, it is deteriorating fast as the spine has now separated but I did not maltreat it, honest. I will attempt a repair then forward on to kittiwake.

Arrived today, with impeccable timing. I am just finishing a book with a very sad ending so I need cheering up.
My favourite part was the trip to Norway. I was reading it at lunchtime at work and several people asked what I was reading, since I kept giggling.
'Me and my flatmate are big fans of your Norwegian ways. Look at my lobber.'
I indicated my feet, cheerily.
'Yes. I noticed. Just look at those. You are actually wearing them.'
'Yes.'
'Out, in front of other people.'
'Yes'.
I'll be sending it on to oblivious1980 tomorrow.

Arrived safely today, thanks! Half way through another ray at the moment so this one will be up next!
Journal Entry 13 by oblivious1980 from Sheffield, South Yorkshire United Kingdom on Monday, June 21, 2004
I absolutely loved this and have giggled my way through it in every spare second over the past couple of days!
Danny's dry wit is hilarious and Dave's pure joy at the whole endeavour is brilliant, the enthusiasm with which he compiled his statistics is just something you can't help but laugh at as it progresses.
Thanks so much for setting this up, it's a real feel good read which sucks you in!

Just as an asside - I had to share - book is still with Oblivious I think - but I had a 'Dave Gorman' experience!
I was doing payroll training in a factory in Leamington Spa, when I noticed a Gorman, D - and sure enough he was a Dave on the payroll there! I asked the payroll people if he had met 'the' Dave Gorman - and they said they weren't sure but they would ask him - and they vaguely remembered ther being something 'special' about the name! - It was such a laugh to almost meet a Dave Gorman though!
Oblivious - can you check in the book if there was a furniture maker from Leamington Spa in the book?

Book is set to go out to Spike as soon as I have some pennies, hopefully this week!
Now I am afraid I have bad news on the Leamington Spa Dave, you may all have to brace yourselves if, like me, you have developed a strange affection for our duo after reading this book.
There is a Leamington Spa Dave in the book, now it doesn't say if he's a furniture maker or not because.. HE WAS THE DAVE THAT REFUSED TO MEET THEM! He would have been number nine and he also features in the last page of the book where it says they still hadn't met him :)
What a mean man! :D He didn't deserve to meet our weebly anyway!

Am feeling awful about stalling this, I promise it's not disappeared into a black hole and will be on the move around the 26th as that's pay day (at last!)
Journal Entry 17 by oblivious1980 from Sheffield, South Yorkshire United Kingdom on Friday, December 10, 2004
Finally on its way to Spike!
This landed safely this morning - thanks everyone ;o)
This book is a good giggle ;O)
Although I did make the mistake, if I can call it a mistake, of reading Danny Wallace's Join Me first. I only mention it as on several occasions I remember thinking "I've read this bit". Maybe the books really are that similar. Not wishing to spoil Join Me or put anyone else off reading it though, as I think that Join Me is the funnier of the two. In fact, in written form at least, I think Danny comes across as the funnier ;o)
I have the same reservations about this book as I did about Danny's though, and that is the financial side. Having said that, at least the issue was dealt with/mentioned in this book. Well, sort of ;op
I'd still reccomend that people read this book though. It's got highs, lows, and some downright silly bits in it - what more could you want.
I'll finish by saying just be careful what you make bets on in a pub ;o)...
Will post on as soon as I hear from Snoozle with an address.

I have an address now, so will be posting this off sometime this week (depending on if/when I get to the post office). I'll journal again to say when it's on its way.
Posted today.
I recieved this book the week before I moved house, and its only recently been found in the many boxes we have been slowly unpacking. I feel terrible for being such a bad bookcrosser! Thanks for reminding me about it Weebly, much appreciated.
Grovelling aside, its a great book, completely mad in the best possible way!

Sent to Menita
Received it two days ago and I already got lots of laughter from a friend of mine,
who tought the cover was hysterical.
I first have to finish another bookring,
but will start asap!

Okay okay okay, I'm slow.
Somehow I never got round to finish it.
Maybe the Danny Wallace-humor finally got to me,
maybe I just couldn't take the depressing english weather-descriptions,
maybe the many mentionings of the name 'Dave Gorman' did it;
I truly don't know.
What I do know is that I will never (okay, never=the near future) will be able to finish it.
So I will send it on asap to Abrokenstarr!
-
and please believe me when I say asap I really mean within now and the next four weeks.....
I guess...
;-)

I'm a little bit confused. I can't see that I've received a pm for this book, and I've already read it on another ray, some time ago.
I'll send it on.

Just an update on this book - as I said, I've already read it.
Sunflowergirl asked to be skipped and as yet I am getting no response from dragonreader. I'll leave it up to you weebly as to how long you want me to wait before I send it back to you.

Returned home - many thanks to all the participants. This book really looks like it has weathered a good few reads - it does not look in good enough condition to wild release - and I am chickening out of sending it to Leamington Spa Dave - as I no longer work for the company I did the payroll training through.
If any careful readers want to take a look at this book I would be happy to post it out - but it will stay on my bookshelf in the safe and warm until then!

I just noticed that most of the picture pages from the middle of the book are now missing - they were loose when I read it so I wonder where they have ended up???

I picked this up at the Victoria Arms meet on Saturday 24th Nov.
Excellent! I really enjoyed this!
Having only vaguely heard of this 'Quest' back in 2000, I was keen to read the book. I have to say, it was worth waiting for.
I'll keep this by and take to a meet, as the condition of the book is deteriorating fairly rapidly now!

I read this straight through in about 6-8 hours, waiting in the hotel room. Really enjoyed it; I'd heard of the quest a while ago, but didn't know any details, so this made it much more interesting.
The book is really on it's last legs, with most of the first half of the book falling out now! If anyone has those missing photo pages too, then feel free to send them so I can reunite them with the rest of the book.
