I'm not sure why this is such a popular novel with guys in their 20's - I had to read it to see what all the fuss was about. Interesting, but not rivetting. Nevertheless, a classic, first published in 1945.

I had never read this before, and like newf, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't have very high expectations, a friend had read it, and didn't like it.
I did enjoy it. I did find some of the slang interesting (I think I'm going to start calling people 'crumb bum' - it made me laugh out loud). I like the way the book was written as though Holden is having a conversation with the reader.
