Not my usual taste in books . . . I like mysteries but not ones in which women are tortured. . . . I'll decide once I read it whether it was a good read or not.

4/2/2003 - Whew, what a heavy read! This book is too graphic for words. It's also CSI without the forensics to make it interesting. It's too many pages of psychobabble about incest, bisexuality, and lesbianism. It took me a long time to get through it because I keep falling asleep during Lindsey's long passages of explication. All the cutaways to the different characters' viewpoints were distracting, too.

The only things I really liked about the book were the strong female Hispanic detective (though even she got overbearing at times), the developing relationship between her and the FBI specialist, and the setting (Houston! it was fun to recognize place names and streets and so on). As someone who likes to see justice done, however, it angered me at the end that the main antagonist seemed like she was going to get away with her crimes.
