Journal Entry 2 by kikimasu from Portland, Oregon USA on Sunday, May 9, 2004
This book is starting its journey. It will go to cyber-librarian first and then head to debnance. After that, who knows. I will update if/when there is more information. Hope you all enjoy!

I received 4 Discworld books today from kikimasu in FL. Somehow I must have gotten out of the loop for these bookrings .... but I'm so happy to be included again. I hope to read this entire interesting series!! Thanks ever so much kikimasu.

c. 1989 -- 355 pages -- Paperback -- #8 Discworld series -- BBC's "The Big Read" Top 100 Books -- #15 on BC 2008 Favorites list (series)

Front Cover: An uproarious tale of magic, mayhem, and a marauding dragon.

Back Cover: Here there be dragons ... and the denizens of Ankh-Morpork wish one huge firebreather would return from whence it came. Long believed extinct, a superb specimen of draco nobilis ("noble dragon" for those who don't understand italics) has appeared in Discworld's greatest city. Not only does this unwelcome visitor have a nasty habit of charbroiling everything in its path, in rather short order it is crowned King (it is a noble dragon, after all ...).

Meanwhile, back at Unseen Universtiy, an ancient and long-forgotten volume -- The Summoning of Dragons -- is missing from the Library's shelves. To the rescue come Captain Vimes, Constable Carrot, and the rest of the Night Watch who, along with other brave citizens, risk everyting, including a good roasting, to dethrone the flying monarch and restore order to Ankh-Morpork (before it's burned to a crisp). A rare tale, well done as only Terry Pratchett can.

I'll send this to debnance when I'm finished reading it ... and then I think roadrunner is interested in reading it too.

I finished reading this today and sent a PM to debnance. Although Vimes and the "Night Watch" aren't my favorite characters in the Discworld series, I still enjoyed this book. Carrot and the dragon kept the humor going in a hilarious fashion. I always love the orangutan librarian and anything surrounding the library. ;-)

Several people have told me this is their favorite Pratchett. I'm putting it into the lineup after I finish the newest Lois Lowry book in a day or so. Thanks again for sharing, kikimasu!

Journal Entry 7 by debnance from Alvin, Texas USA on Sunday, November 14, 2004
I've not read a Pratchett yet that I haven't loved. Guards! Guards! has the leader of a secret society setting loose a dragon on Ankh-Morpork. Lots of odd characters in this one as is usual in Discworld books, including a society matron who is a dragon hobbyist and a dwarf named Carrot who is astonished to learn that he was adopted, never suspecting he was anything more than an enormously tall dwarf. I especially liked all the parts about the Library.

"There are many horrible sights in the multiverse. Somehow, though, to a soul attuned to the subtle rhythms of a library, there are few worse sights than a hole where a book ought to be. Someone had stolen a book."

Journal Entry 8 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Thursday, December 2, 2004
This arrived last week while I was away for Thanksgiving. I have several rings ahead of this but I will get to this asap.

Journal Entry 9 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Tuesday, January 18, 2005
This book will be heading home along with Pyramids and Eric very shortly. I've decided to skip reading this book and listen to it on Audible as I have had this one way too long and I know Kikimasu is anxious to get them back.

Released 18 yrs ago (5/9/2005 UTC) at Another Bookcrosser in -- Mail or by hand-rings, RABCK, meetings, trades, Florida USA
