Pre-numbered label used for registration. A well-written novel concerning two girl cousins who had been raised in India, now living in the United States. One is married but sadly childless, the other, who had stayed behind in India, has now divorced her abusive husband and taken their small daughter with her to live with her cousin while she also tries to establish a new life in the States. She comes out of desperation for her untenable situation as a divorced woman in India, despite sensing that her cousin's husband has an unseemly interest in her. Indeed, he does; he knows it all too well when his sad young wife, blind to his feelings, insists that they must help the cousin she is so close to, and he tries to prevent her coming. But of course, she does, and the three of them must each deal with their bittersweet demons. A supporting cast of new friends, old lovers, and the interlocked families back in India add extra dimension and depth to the story.
