From the first couple of pages your dragged into the twisted world of this family, well at first, from a distance they seem alien, but as I've come to expect from Banks he reals you in slowly and so you can draw parallels with all of his characters, even if they are murderous convinced-is-a-warlock children. This is a brilliant look at a childhood set in an induced fantasy world, where as most children have the option to create their own fantasy, the father in this book pushes it upon the child and you can see why he does what he does....
