This book is not about buddhism, so much as a series of interviews with the Dali Lama. Highlights a series of inevitable truths that we all have to face, no matter how fearful we are of them (death, illness, old age). The fist chapter is labeled "The Purpose of Life". Well we'll see....

The premise of this book is very important. The Dalai Lama states that people are compassionate beings at their core, not competetive or violent, "Anger, violence, and aggression my certinaly arise...they arise when we are frustrated in our efforts to acheive love and affection." I would take that a step farther and say that they arise when we are frustrated over acquiring what we, especially in the western world, view as replacements for love, such as status symbols.

Mailed 11/26.

Received from therubycanary, this past week. I really look forward to reading this... its theories/premises sound very appealing to me.
