I'm delighted to be a World Book Night book-giver. I'll be giving this, and 47 other copies of Fingersmith, away in York on Saturday night. Can't wait!
I've read Fingersmith a couple of times, and think it's a great book. It's got everything a book needs - a couple of dastardly villains, a couple of feisty heroines, some cracking plot twists and turns... what more could you want? The historical detail is good too, in that it makes you think about life back then, especially the class structure (e.g. which servants do and don't say hello to each other in the morning - what a minefield!).
I think this is a good book to give away on World Book Night because hopefully people might remember it being on the telly, and everybody loves a Victorian lesbian, don't they?!

I just gave this to someone in York this afternoon. It was either a friend of a friend in Molly's Tea Rooms, or it was a lady I didn't know outside the Art Gallery. Can't remember! If you're reading this I hope you enjoy(ed) the book!

A great read. Thought the background detail absorbing and wasn't at all prepared for the shock at the end of the first part. I will certainly read more by the same author.
I was given it outside York Art Gallery as I was studying my map to get back to the hotel.
The book will continue its journey in Norfolk.

A gripping story with colourful insights to life in Victorian times. The twists in the story took me completely by surprise each time and once started, I found the book difficult to put down. It was the first book by Sarah Waters I have read and I shall definitely try more.
The book was passed on to me by a friend who lives locally, though she was given it in York.
I shall now pass it on to my cousin who lives in Kent, so it will be well travelled!

My cousin passed this book on to me in June but, as I knew I wouldn't start if for a while, I passed it on to my Mum, also in Kent, who has just returned it to me. Mum, aged 89 yrs, really enjoyed it and thought it was a real page turner. I'm looking forward to starting it very soon.
My Mum passed the book back to me. For the first 2/3 of the book I couldn't put it down and actually gasped out loud occassionally at those twists and turns that other readers have mentioned. I did think the last part of the book ran out of steam but I would still encourage others to read it. One of the best novels I've read recently. I'm going to pass the book on to one of my daughters.
Borrowed this book from a friend at work who had read it at her book club in Mereworth. Wonderful story with so many twists and turns.
