Manga comic book.

NOTE: Please be careful where you release this book as it is classified as "Not suitable for readers under 18" and, even if you disagree with that, it's probably safer to release the book somewhere child-unfriendly!

The artwork is amazing in places, and I like the tasteful eroticism of the novel; what I'm missing is depth of plot, which may well come later in the series. It's a fine story, I can see why it's a classic.

Mailed onwards to Benjaminread today!

Why thank you hon, I'd forgotten this was coming. What a pleasant surprise. Can't beat a good dose of sex and violence in the post.
I must admit i swallowed this down in one gulp during tea time. (though I'll doubtless go back and re-read a bit more carefully).
I was most impressed. I've not read much manga and, though I'd seen this around before, I'd always been put off by the appalling cover (topless hunk, topless girl). I thought the artwork was excellent; even sublime in places. The erotic bits were handled well (ooer) and actually were fairly erotic, rather than the usual ghastly cheesecake T+A that some comics offer.
The plot was, as Esther says, a little lacking but that's not unusual with these books. Manga is a massively decompressed form of story telling compared to western comics. Witness all the silent panels, the atmosphere building images, the 'acting' via the body language of the protagonists. it probably has got a plot, it just won't get into it until the next book...
It suffers a bit from some unwieldy chunks of exposition and some of the panel to panel storytelling is a leetle confusing. It's worth remembering though that this is a: translated, and b: originally meant to be read from right to left. The pages are mirror-imaged then put back together in a western format. It works but it does affect the way the eye travels acroos the page a bit.
So, overall, most enjoyable and thought provoking for a shag 'em and chop 'em funny book. (the bit that really struck a chord was when, whilst asking him to make love to her, she covers her eyes with her hands for about 5 or 6 panels. I thought that was such a well-considered, human gesture on the part of the writer/artist. I shall be pinching it for my next script...)
Thanks Esther. Would you like it back, or shall I find another deserving cause?
