Dear Reader

Welcome to BookCrossing and thanks for being a part of World Book Night 2011, the largest book giveaway in history. 1,000,000 specially printed copies of 25 different books changed hands on March 5th 2011 and began their journey from reader to reader. This book is one of them. World Book Night has joined with BookCrossing to help track these books as they travel. You can be a part of that journey by making a comment in the book's journal here on BookCrossing. Your journal entry can say how you got the book, what you thought of it, your plans for it or whatever else you might like to add.

On BookCrossing you may choose to remain anonymous or join (it's free). If you join, you’ll be alerted by e-mail each time someone makes another journal entry for this specific copy of this book (other copies of the book are travelling with their own ID number. Every copy of every book has a unique ID). It’s all confidential (you’re known only by your screen name and no one is ever given your e-mail address) and spam-free.

Thanks in advance for being part of World Book Night and BookCrossing. And happy reading and sharing.

As multiple copies had been left in CMK library I picked this up to re-release, but I think I'll read it first so it's joining the 'to be read' books.

This is a very ambitious novel which just about comes off, mainly because of the strength of the writing. When I finished the book I couldn't help thinking that a number of shorter books might have been just as good, if not better, mainly because the links between the different sections were just too frail.
Still a good holiday read.
KORKY'S DAD

Journal Entry 6 by Korky at Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire United Kingdom on Friday, July 22, 2011
I'd slightly put off reading this as I expected it to be a more 'difficult' read than it actually turned out to be. I think I preferred the first halves of the stories because of the feeling of anticipation, as not all of the resolutions were completely satisfying. Some stories were significantly stronger and therefore ore enjoyable too - I particularly liked The Pacific Journal of Adam Ewing, Letters From Zedelghem and The Ghastly Ordeal of Timothy Cavendish.
Like dad I thought the links were pretty flimsy, but I could see that the overall theme of the book was enslavement and how that repeats as a pattern through history.
The character Robert Frobisher describes the structure of his Cloud Atlas Sextet, in a mirror of the books structure, on page 463 "Revolutionary or gimmicky? Shan't know until it's finished and by then it'll be too late". I'm not sure which, if either, but it was very well written and I'd recommend it.
